SVMC
SVMC began offering laser surgery in 2003.  Laser surgery is very effective at decreasing pain, bleeding, and swelling, therefore, your pet will heal faster.

The laser works by producing and intense beam of light that is capable of cutting and cauterizing tissue.  The laser is precisely controlled by the veterinarian so that only a thin layer of tissue is removed.  The precision of the laser is much greater than that of the scalpel.

The laser cauterizes nerve endings as it cuts tissue, therefore decreasing the amount of pain felt post-operatively.  The laser also seals small blood vessels.  Less bleeding gives the doctor a clear surgical field and allows for procedures to be completed in less time than conventional surgery.  Less time under anesthesia is always beneficial for your pet.  Swelling is decreased because the laser does not crush, tear, or bruise the tissue.

Nearly every surgical procedure can benefit from the use of laser surgery.
